Saint Ann Foundation (SAF) is a local independent non-profit organization in Uganda, founded in 2016 (MIA/NB/2017/08/173) with an affiliation in the US under a 501(c)3 NGO (EIN 83-0652651). SAF is dedicated to providing opportunities to underprivileged children and women through education, cultural arts and community support. SAF works with the poor to overcome poverty and injustice as well as alleviate the distress of the vulnerable and defenceless. They provide food, shelter, and love to those who are marginalized and in need of compassion. SAF serves all people regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, gender, economic background . SAF programs support children and young people to participate more fully in their education by providing scholarships, emotional, practical and financial support. The programs give disadvantaged children the skills and motivation to stay in school and get the most from their education so they can create a better future for themselves.
Our mission is to work towards ensuring the poorest and most vulnerable children, youth, and women have access to fundamental rights, basic necessitates such as food, shelter and healthcare, education, cultural arts and music, sports, socio-economic participation, and community support. To achieve this we foster international cooperation, community based development and cross cultural programs to ensure that all children have access to an enriched education and future opportunities. Above all, we believe “Education attainment is an important predictor of future employment, welfare, and health prospects – and it improves [a person’s] ability to contribute socially and economically in the community.”
Participate in teaching volunteer abroad projects with Saint Ann Foundation and make a contribution to the education of growing children. In most cases, volunteers help in improving the vocabulary as well as the spoken English skills of the students. You may also get involved in teaching other subjects such as maths and geography, general knowledge etc., as per the requirement. You can assist the teachers during their lessons, think of activity-based learning methods and give proper attention to the children. Often, volunteers also take up the cause of renovating the school premises, making them more friendly and vibrant for the kids. Volunteers can also assist in extracurricular activities such as performing arts, sports and games. You don't have to be a professional teacher, and you would not need a TEFL Certificate to volunteer abroad for our English teaching projects. Volunteers just need to have a good command over written and conversational English. Volunteers should be open-minded, flexible and prepared to face challenges. In some projects, volunteers find themselves teaching in an open-air classroom and the need for creativity and improvisation is paramount. We encourage our volunteers to raise funds in case they choose to bring along some useful materials and supplies which can be utilized for the project like coloring books, charts, study materials, pens & pencils, notebooks, etc.
